Iowa ranks No. 37 nationally for consumer spending at small, independent retailers, reports technology company Womply. The Iowa retailers brought in an average of $1,153 a day. In its first study of this kind, Womply analyzed transactions at 54,000 small, independent retail shops across the country for each day in 2017. Other Iowa findings included:
- The average retailer has 10 transactions per day, ranking No. 38 nationally.
- The average order size is $112, No. 28 nationally.
- August is the No. 1 sales month; Black Friday is the top sales day of the year.
