We analyzed transactions for every day of the 2017 calendar year at 26,000 small, independent restaurants across America. The result is a comprehensive look at when restaurants earn the most money, when they seat the most guests, and which states make the most dough from patrons who #eatlocal.
What we learned about Idaho
Idaho is the 45th-ranked state for restaurant revenues in the United States. Restaurants in The Gem State had a very different annual seasonality than most states last year. Their top days of the year surrounded the 2017 Solar Eclipse—a one-time event.
Understanding this report
To understand the average day for restaurants in America, we took a multidimensional look at their performance. We specifically looked at:
- Transactions: How many individual payments restaurants process.
- Ticket Size: How much patrons spend on average per transaction.
- Daily Sales Revenue: How much revenue restaurants make per day.
THE AVERAGE DAY FOR IDAHO RESTAURANTS
Restaurants in Idaho rank 28th for the average number of transactions each day. Their average ticket size is ranks dead last. Idaho is the 44th-ranked state for average daily revenues. This makes The Gem State the 45th-ranked state overall for restaurants and one of the most affordable states to #eatlocal.

On a national level, sales revenues only have a subtle variation from month to month. That holds mostly true for Idaho, the outlier being above-average summer months.
TOP 5 DAYS FOR IDAHO RESTAURANTS
Unlike most states, where Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and the week before Christmas typically top the list, restaurants in Idaho do better on non-holidays. One day of note was the #1 day last year, August 19th which happened to be the Saturday before the “Great American Eclipse.” Idaho was one of the few states that experienced a total eclipse and received a large number of tourists for the weekend.

Restaurants were only qualified for the analysis if Womply had a full year of transaction history and the business recorded multiple transactions per day, on average.
