Welcome to the latest edition of Hot Plates, your weekly guide to food events and dining promotions around South Florida. Father’s Day is celebrated Sunday, June 17, and many restaurants are offering promotions and brunches to salute the dads in our lives.

It is my contention that Father’s Day is meant to be spent at home, with steaks on the grill and a beer in hand, and apparently I am not alone in that feeling. A recent analysis by Womply, a firm that focuses on small business, found that Mother’s Day ranked first nationally on the calendar for restaurant sales (and fifth in Florida in 2017), but Father’s Day lagged well behind (48th in Florida). However, if you wish to go to a nice restaurant and have a fine meal on Sunday, who am I to argue?

KYU, 251 NW 25th St., a hip spot in Wynwood and one of my favorite restaurants in South Florida, has a drink giveaway lined up. Dads who dine will get a free “duck duck juuse,” a shot of cognac served with a shot of warm duck jus chaser from the kitchen’s burnt-end duck breast dish.

Besides stunning views of Biscayne Bay and a sumptuous Father’s Day brunch buffet from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. ($79 per adult, $35 per child under 12, plus tax and tip), the Rusty Pelican, 3201 Rickenbacker Causeway, in Key Biscayne, will offer a special Father’s Day Whiskey Tasting 6-9 p.m. ($35 per person, plus tax and tip). The session includes sips of multiple whiskeys (Tullamore Dew X.O., Balvenie 14 and Glenfiddich 21) and a goodie bag including a cigar.

Shooters Waterfront, 3033 NE 32nd Ave., in Fort Lauderdale, will offer Intracoastal views and an all-day brunch buffet ($46 for adults, $22 kids 12 and under, $20 bottomless drinks, plus tax and tip).

American Social, 720 E. Las Olas Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale, will give dads who dine a free hand-rolled cigar. Brunch will be served 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., with bottomless house mimosas and Bloody Marys for $18, bottomless Chandon Rosé for $34.95, and $50 bottles of Moet.
